Steven

Cover Art

This was our 2nd "complete" track. It needed a revisit once I figured out how to sing a bit better, and the music needed a refresh too.

Steven was a foster kid, in my year at Holgate Secondary school, with who I had a fight. There was no justification, but the others had told him that I called him a retard. While in the locker room he punched me, egged on by the rest of the class, then he jumped me once outside the gym. I still remember the feeling when the punches rained down while I was trying to get my arms free of my coat and schoolbag.

Lyrics

Everyone called him retarded,
Not so bright more simple minded,
Foster care left him all a mess.
An unloved kid will only learn how to aggress

He’s looking my way
A deadened stare
Whatever is coming next
He doesn’t really care
And nothing's ever fair
And No one ever cared
And nothing's ever fair
I see but no-one's there
Never had a family name
No-one there to feel your shame, you feel ashamed
The others filled your head full of spite
So that they could see you hit me and start a fight

My eye closing up
My face growing numb

Something smouldering inside
Some new place I've never tried
Smash your face against the wall
A knee-cap to your balls, a certain duty calls
And I no longer care
I no longer care
Everything's unfair
and Steven got his share
Nothing's ever fair

Part of me is having fun
Don't fuck with me, cos i'm a loaded gun
And everything's unfair
and I no longer care

Steven got his share
Steven got his share
Steven got his share
And no-one ever cared
